  • The first line is #EXTM3U, which marks the file as an extended playlist.
  • Each channel starts with an #EXTINF line: a duration (-1 for live), optional tags such as tvg-id, tvg-logo and group-title, then a comma and the channel name.
  • The next line is the stream address itself, usually an http link.
  • tvg-id links the channel to the guide, and group-title files it into a folder such as News or Sports.

An M3U link delivers everything as one long list and leaves the player to sort it. An Xtream Codes login lets the player request each part on its own, which means quicker loading, tidy Movies and Series sections and a guide that fills itself in. Use Xtream wherever the player offers it and keep M3U as the fallback.

Treat it like a password

Your M3U link and Xtream details contain your username and password in plain text. Anyone who has them can use your line, and every extra stream counts against your connections, so don’t post them in forums or screenshots. If a link leaks, ask your provider to change the password, which makes the old link stop working.
