  • Add the guide. For M3U, paste the XMLTV link into the EPG field; Xtream logins usually find it alone.
  • Let it load. Wait for the channel list and guide to finish downloading before browsing.

Which format to use

An M3U link delivers everything as one long list and leaves the player to sort it. An Xtream Codes login lets the player request each part on its own, which means quicker loading, tidy Movies and Series sections and a guide that fills itself in. Use Xtream wherever the player offers it and keep M3U as the fallback.

Lists of “free” codes and playlists circulating online are other people’s logins or unlicensed lines. They stop working within days and can point your device at servers you know nothing about. A login should come from the provider you pay.

Keeping a playlist private

Your M3U link and Xtream details contain your username and password in plain text. Anyone who has them can use your line, and every extra stream counts against your connections, so don’t post them in forums or screenshots. If a link leaks, ask your provider to change the password, which makes the old link stop working.

Can I open an M3U file in VLC?

Yes. Use Media > Open Network Stream for a link, or open the file directly. VLC plays the channels but has no TV guide, so a dedicated IPTV player is nicer for daily viewing.

Where do I get an M3U link?

Is M3U the same as M3U8?

As playlists, nearly. M3U8 is M3U saved in UTF-8 text, and most players open both. In HLS streaming, though, .m3u8 also names the segment list of a single stream.
